Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor A/C Voltage Correlation

What does the P2136 code mean?

The P2136 code indicates a correlation error between the throttle position sensor (TPS) A and C circuits, or between the accelerator pedal position sensor (APP) A and C circuits. These sensors are used by the powertrain control module (PCM) to determine driver demand and throttle position. When the voltage signals from sensor A and sensor C do not match within a specified range, the PCM sets this code. This can cause erratic throttle response, reduced power, or limp mode.

03. Step-by-Step Diagnosis

1

Step 1: Use a scan tool to verify P2136 and check freeze frame data.

2

Step 2: Visually inspect wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

3

Step 3: Test sensor voltage signals with a multimeter; compare A and C voltages per manufacturer specs.

4

Step 4: If voltages are out of range, replace the faulty sensor (TPS or APP).

5

Step 5: Clear code and test drive to confirm repair.
